Excerpts
Section titled “Excerpts”When the AI uses a specific passage, Contradic adds a small numbered badge next to the sentence. Each badge points to a short excerpt so you can see exactly what the answer is based on.
- The number reflects the order in which sources first appear in the answer. If the same source is used again, the number stays the same.
- Hover or tap a badge to preview the excerpt. You will see a short snippet from the document or note used by the AI.
- If a source was removed after the answer was produced, the badge shows a warning instead of a preview.
Need the background on how excerpts are prepared? See Pre-computation on import.
Pre-computation on import
Section titled “Pre-computation on import”Before the AI can cite a source, Contradic prepares your documents during import. This background processing makes citations fast, reliable, and easy to verify later.
What happens behind the scenes:
- Your files are checked for supported formats and duplicates.
- The text is extracted and split into smaller excerpts.
- Those excerpts are stored so the AI can quickly pick the right passages for each answer.
If import is still running, citations may appear only after processing finishes.

Verification in documents
Section titled “Verification in documents”When you click a source badge, Contradic opens the details panel so you can verify the quote inside the original document or note.
How verification works:
- Click a numbered badge in the AI answer.
- The details panel opens with the matching document or note.
- The quoted passage is highlighted inside the full content so you can compare it to the AI response.
If the exact passage is no longer found, Contradic shows the full content without a highlight so you can still review the source.
